The Gildmark
Divine Banking in the World of Khassid
“You need not worship Me. You need only want—and act upon it.”
—Miné, Goddess of Desire, Dominion, Aspiration, and Pride
Coin is heavy. Vaults can be breached. Fortunes vanish when those entrusted with them prove less dependable than their promises.
The Gildmark offers another way.
Operating through participating temples and shrines of Miné, the Gildmark is a growing system of magically secured accounts, branch ledgers, client ledgers, coin transfers, and protected storage. Its clerks are members of the faithful, but its services are available to anyone willing to accept its terms. Merchants and laborers, adventurers and nobles, governments and clandestine organizations may all enter covenant—and all receive the same institutional discretion.
The Gildmark does not replace coin, barter, treasure, or the hazards of carrying wealth through a dangerous world. It gives characters another choice: safeguard what they have earned, pay for greater access to it, and accept the obligations that accompany divine security.
Within this 59-page supplement, you will find:
-
Rules for opening and maintaining a Gildmark account
-
Branch ledgers available through participating temples and shrines
-
Blood-bound client ledgers with graduated remote-withdrawal access
-
The Blood Account ritual and rules for shared account authority
-
Illusory bowls through which account holders can deposit and withdraw coin
-
Secured containers for documents, jewelry, gemstones, coinage, and other nonmagical valuables
-
Rules governing damaged, destroyed, suppressed, replaced, and divinely reclaimed ledgers
-
Beneficiary designation, inheritance, repose, and the ten-year disposition of unclaimed accounts
-
Guidance for fees, access limits, confidentiality, fraud, succession, and institutional use
-
Setting material examining Miné, Her clergy, and the divine and arcane foundations of the Gildmark
-
Advice for introducing the Gildmark gradually into Khassid or adapting it to another campaign world
-
Story possibilities involving commerce, contracts, inheritance, intrigue, theft, ambition, and divine politics
The Gildmark is canonically present in Khassid, but no character or campaign is required to use its services. Keepers can leave it in the background as part of the setting, introduce only its basic account services, or bring its complete rules into play when wealth and its consequences become important.
A character may never open an account.
The Gildmark will still be there.
Waiting for them to want what it offers.
Designed for Keepers, players, and worldbuilders using the 2024 rules of 5e.
A canonical institution. An optional system. A choice with consequences.
